About Me:
I began attending homebirths as a student & midwife's assistant in 1996, shortly after the homebirth of my first child. In 1997, I received formal training as a Doula / Midwife Assistant and as a Childbirth Educator through ALACE (the Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators). I have been serving families in the birthing community as a Childbirth Educator, a Doula and an assistant midwife ever since.
Over the past 14 years, I have had the privilege of assisting twelve different homebirth midwives and have attended doula clients at three local hospitals. I am in the final stages of completing the the process to become a Virginia Licensed Midwife & a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife).
I have received training in Neonatal Resuscitation as well as Adult and Child CPR and have studied the use of complementary therapies such as water-birth, reflexology, TENS, acupressure, herbs, homeopathy, massage, use of essential oils and optimal maternal and fetal positioning in order to help birthing women achieve optimal comfort levels & relaxation during their labors. My clients have access to a wide assortment of comfort options including a "deby" style birthing stool, a waterbirth tub and a TENS unit.
I have received training in Hypnobirthing Childbirth Education from Marie Mongan in 2004 and received further training in the method in 2009. I offer both group & private Hypnobirthing classes.
A natural-born nurturer, I strive to bring to births a calm tranquility born from a deep trust in the birthing process and a confidence that every mother is capable of safely giving birth to her baby.
I am the mother of four children, all of whom have been born at home and reside with my family in Stuarts Draft, Virginia.
